2022 Fellowship Event Guide!

Hello! My name is MooingCat and welcome to my guide for the 2022 Fellowship Event! In this guide I will go through the mechanics of the event, the different rewards and my thoughts on which are best, as well as how to get the most out of this event!

Apologies for the lack of written guides the last few months, I'm back fully now though!

I also have a video version of this guide if you prefer video!

Rewards: New Buildings

Before we get into the mechanics and strategies, let's have a quick look at the rewards you can get from this event, starting with the new ones!

Main Building: Heroes Tavern!

The main building for this event is the brand new Heroes Tavern! This is a great new attack building, comparable to the Eagle Mountain and House of Wolf! It gives both attack and defense boosts for your attacking army, with up to a combined 2.18% attack per tile in SAJM! I would recommend getting this for all players :)

  • Main Building: Heroes Tavern Lv10

    • Size: 5x4 (road required)
    • Base: Population, Happiness, Coins (depending on age)
    • Production: 11 Forge Points
    • Boost: 17-27% Defense boost for attacking army (0.77-1.23 per tile)
    • Boost: 12-21% Attack boost for attacking army (0.55-0.95 per tile)

Grand Prizes + Event Pass

As seems to be standard now, you have two sets of "grand prizes". The main ones you unluck as usual, with a second set of rewards locked beyond a 1200 diamond one-time payment (event pass, or "Fellowship Prizes"). The event pass is not required to get the main building, so if you're free to play (or don't think it's worth it) you can ignore them without losing anything. Below you can see lists of how these rewards appeared on beta, though there may be some changes on the live servers. (If there are I'll update this after the event has started)

Grand Prizes:

  1. 25 Forge Points
  2. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  3. Shrine of Knowledge
  4. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  5. 20% Attack Boost
  6. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  7. Store Building
  8. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  9. Reno Kit
  10. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  11. Mass Self-Aid Kit
  12. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  13. Drummer School
  14. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  15. 20% Attack
  16. Heroes Tavern Lv1
  17. Shrine of Knowledge Upgrade Kit
  18. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit
  19. 2 Blueprints
  20. Heroes Tavern Upgrade Kit

Event Pass / Fellowship Prizes: For a complete list check here: https://forgeofempires.fandom.com/wiki/2022_Fellowship_Event#Hero_Prizes I won't list all here (most are quite insignificant), but there are a few interesting ones:

  • 1) Flower Maidens (new building)
  • 4) Wishing Well
  • 5) Winners' Plaza Lv2
  • 8) Wishing Well Shrink Kit
  • 12) Checkmate Square
  • 14) Hanami Bridge Selection Kit

(then there doesn't seem to be more buildings)

Milestone Rewards for this event gives you some building pieces and event currency, as usual :)

Daily Special: Knights Pavilion

In addition to the Heroes Tavern, there is another new building in this event, the Knights Pavilion. This building is available as a daily special, and it's quite an interesting one! Among other things this building produces units, which is quite rare for buildings to do. It will produce 2 random units of the building's age, so it's not necessarily useful for everyone, but it's definitely an interesting option for some. If you don't have an Alcatraz could be a nice way to produce more units, or you could have some to renovate when you move to a new age to immediately start producing units from that age.

  • New Building: Knights Pavilion (Lv1)
    • Size: 2x2 (road required)
    • Base: Population, Happiness, Coins (depending on age)
    • Production: 5 Goods
    • Production: 2 Random Units (of building's age)

Event Pass: Flower Maidens

Finally, the third new building is the Flower Maidens. This is a "premium" building, that you can only get from the event pass. As far as I know you will only get 1 of these from the first event pass reward.

  • New Building: Flower Maidens (Lv1)
    • Size: 2x2 (road required)
    • Base: Population, Happiness, Coins (depending on age)
    • Production: 3 Forge Points
    • Boost: 5-9% Defense Boost for attacking army (1.0-1.8 per tile)

Daily Specials

Below you'll find a select list of daily specials from this event. This is not complete, so to see the complete list of daily specials (as they appeared on beta) you can check out the fandom wiki. I've split the daily specials into three sections: attack, forge points, and other (situational).

Attack Buildings (for attacking army):

  • Stage of Ages (Lv1)
    • Reasons to get: Great attack per daily special, good attack per tile, good additional rewards
    • Size: 4x4 (road required)
    • Boost: 7-19% Attack | 7-19 per DS | 0.39-1.06 per Tile (including roads)
    • Other: 15 Previous Era Goods, 4 Forge Points, Population, Happiness

  • Winners' Plaza Lv2
    • Reasons to get: Great attack per tile, good attack per daily special
    • Size: 3x3 (road required)
    • Boost: 5-15% Attack | 2.5-7.5 per DS | 0.48 - 1.43 per Tile (including roads)
    • Other: Happiness

  • Checkmate Square (Lv1)
    • Reasons to get: Good attack per daily special, good attack per tile
    • Size: 3x3 (road required)
    • Boost: 5-11% Attack | 5-11 per DS | 0.48-1.05 per Tile (including roads)
    • Other: Population, Coins

  • Cherry Garden Set
    • Reasons to get: Good attack per tile, especially in lower ages
    • Size: Varies, see videos below for suggestions. (no roads required for attack boost)
    • Boost: 20%+ Attack | around 2.8-2.9 per DS | 0.8-1.1 per Tile (no roads)
    • Other: Forge Points, Goods, Happiness, Coins, Supplies, Medals (depends on if connected to road or not)

  • Sentinel Outpost Lv. 1 + Up.
    • Reasons to get: Highest defense efficiency (in event & game), very small and easy to place, you know why it's good!
    • Size: 1x1 (no road required)
    • Boost: 2% / 4% Defense for Level 1 / 2

My recommendations: If you need defense for your attacking army you should go for the Sentinel Outpost! If you're looking for attack, the Stage of Ages will give you the most per daily special, though the Winners' Plaza is more efficient if you're limited on space. Both are great, so which you should get is up to what you need the most (more now, or more efficiency). Both of these have attack that scales with age, so in lower ages the Cherry Garden / Spring Set is actually the most efficient. You will not get as much per daily special from it, but if you are cramped for space it is the most efficient, even for the basic design. The larger designs are more efficient up to the Contemporary Era (where Winners' Plaza is better), but even the 5x5 layout is more efficient up to the Modern Era.

Forge Points:

  • Stage of Ages (Lv1)
    • Reasons to get: Highest fp / daily special, great secondary productions
    • Size: 4x4 (road required)
    • Forge Points: 4 FPs | 4 FPs / DS | 0.22 FPs / Tile (including roads)
    • Other: 7-19% Attack Boost, 15 Prev. Age Goods, Population, Happiness

  • Suishun Mill Lv9
    • Reasons to get: Highest fp efficiency
    • Size: 4x5 (road required)
    • Forge Points: 11 FPs | 1.22 FPs / DS | 0.50 FPs / Tile (including roads)
    • Other: 25 Goods, 33% Supply Boost, Population, Happiness, Coins, Supplies, Medals

  • Mikawa Bridge (Hanami Bridge Lv8)
    • Reasons to get: Honestly ... get Suishun Mill over this :P
    • Size: 4x6 (road required)
    • Forge Points: 10 FPs | 1.25 FPs / DS | 0.38 FPs / Tile (including roads)
    • Other: 25 Goods, Population, Happiness, Coins, Supplies, Medals

  • Shrine of Knowledge (Lv1)
    • Reasons to get: Quite outdated at this point ... so just get something else instead ;)
    • Size: 2x2 (road required)
    • Forge Points: 1 FP | 1 per DS | 0.2 per Tile (including roads)
    • Other: Population, Coins

My Recommendations: If you want a lot of forge points quickly and have the space, I would recommend the Stage of Ages, which also has the added benefit of giving some very nice attack boost! If you want the most FPs per tile, your best bet is the Suishun Mill, which will also combine better with the Blue Galaxy if you have that.

Situational:

If none of the buildings above interest you, there are always some situational / nice-to-have items like the Rogue Hideout / Shrink Kit, Store Building, and 6h Mass Supply Rush. No Wishing Well (or shrink kit) appeared on beta. In addition to these, I'd like to highlight two more options:

As mentioned previously, the brand new Knights Pavilion will be available this event as a daily special. If you want to produce more units, this is definitely an interesting option.

If you are looking for Antiques Dealer fodder, the best option seems to be the Stage of Ages, at 11550 Coins and 15-25 Gems (24h).

Quest "Cheat List"

Below you'll find my "cheat list" for the quests in this event. This is not a complete list of quests, that you can find here. This is a list of quests you might need to plan ahead for, but I always recommend that you check out the complete list yourself to see if there are any other quests you might find challenging. Also, only the "difficult" part of a quest will be shown. For example, a part like "pay X coins" will not be included.

Event Mechanics

The mechanics for this event is fairly simple. It's a classic "choose 1 of 3" minigame where you choose between 1 of 3 "Fellows". There is also some additional complexity in the "Heroes", which are basically the same as coaches in the Forge Bowl event. So, let's first quickly go through how the minigame works, then I'll guide you through all the different choices you can make. So, for info on which fellow to choose or which hero to choose, check out the sections below!

Fellows (top)

With each turn or "play" you will be presented with 3 fellows to choose from. The fellows are chosen randomly from 12 different fellows, split into 3 groups. You will get 1 fellow from each group as options. You can find detailed information about each fellow on the fandom wiki page (fellows). Each fellow will give a reward, including a chance of the Daily Special. Each fellow costs a certain amount of event currency (Traver Rations), and will move you 1, 2, or 3 miles towards the next city. You need to travel 25 miles to reach each city, which will give you the next Grand Prize (and fellowship prize if you have bought the event pass). Additional miles will carry over, so you don't have to worry about which option you choose at the end as you reach a city. Below each fellow you will see between 1 and 3 stars, which represents how many miles they move.

There is no hard rule on which fellow is best, but in general, cheaper fellows tend to be better for daily specials, while the more expensive fellows are better for grand prizes. This is not universal, though, so I'll go over the specific order of which fellows are best further below, or you can check out this sortable table on the fandom wiki

Heroes (top)

In addition to the fellows, you also have heroes (can be accessed in the top-left corner of the event window). There are 5 available heroes:

  • Default Hero: Gives a 3% chance to double the reward each play
  • Progress Hero: Gives +1 mile each play
  • Special Hero: Gives +5% chance to win Daily Special each play
  • League Hero: Gives double the points towards the League
  • Ultimate Hero: All of the above bonuses, but costs 150 Diamonds. (Often called "Diamond Hero")

When you select a hero it will be active for 24 hours, before you go back to the Default Hero again. After a hero has been active for 24 hours, it will have a cooldown period of a further 24 hours, meaning you can't choose it again during that time. This cooldown does not apply to the Default Hero or Ultimate Hero.

Leagues (top)

This event also has a league system! Like with most of these leagues, your position will be determined by how much event currency you spend during the event. For this event the leagues are based on number of miles you travel. This means that if you want the maximum progress towards the league, you want to get as many miles per event currency as possible (see further below for info on which fellows are best).

There are two heroes that improve your points gained towards the league: The Progress Hero indirectly improves the points gained by increasing the number of miles you progress, and the League Hero will directly improve the league progress by doubling the points. The Diamond Hero will give you both of these at the same time, for maximum points gained.

Event Currency: Travel Rations (top)

As usual, the event currency of Travel Rations is gained through the event quests. You can also get a decent amount through incidents, so you definitely want to pick up those. In total you will get 13000 Travel Rations for free, not including incidents or newsletter, assuming no changes from beta:

  • Starting amount: 200
  • Daily Logins: 22*200 = 4400
  • Rush Quests: 40*90 = 3600
  • Daily Quests: 21*150 = 3150
  • Quest Milestones: 450 + 1200 = 1650
  • Total: 13000 Travel Rations

Incidents in this event that give event currency will have a special look, making it much easier to find them! I did not get a chance to pick up incidents regularly on beta, but based on when I did pick up I think somewhere between 50 and 150 Travel Rations per day is possible to get, so you should be able to get a further 1-2k+ from incidents.

Event Strategies

Which Fellow should you choose? (top)

This depends on what you want to focus on: Grand Prizes or Daily Specials. Which hero you choose will also have an impact, look below for more information on which hero I recommend.

If you have the foehelper extension installed you can use the event helper to get the best option. You want to choose the green "Cost/Step" option if your focus is on Grand Prizes, or the green "Cost/Prize" option if your focus is on Daily Specials

You can also use this sortable chart on the fandom wiki page to get the best option for your focus.

Fellows for Daily Specials (top)

If you want to focus on Daily Specials you should pick the option that gives the highest chance per travel rations. Each fellow has between 5% and 14% of giving the daily special, but you want to look at it in the context of fellow cost.

The best order of fellows is (using cost of fellow):

  • With Special or Ultimate Hero: 50, 60, 65, 55, 75, 95, 90, 80, 110, 120, 130, 150
  • Without Special or Ultimate Hero: 65, 60, 95, 90, 110, 75, 50, 80, 120, 150, 130, 55
  • General Rule with Hero: Cheapest Fellow
  • General Rule without Hero: Cheapest Fellow except 50 and 55, don't go for those :P

Fellows for Grand Prizes (and league progress) (top)

If you want to focus on Grand Prizes (for Heroes Tavern and league progress) you should pick the option that gives you the most miles per travel rations. Depending on how many stars a fellow has, it will either move 1, 2, or 3 miles, though you want to look at these numbers in context of the fellow cost. You need a total of 25 miles per Grand Prize.

The best order of fellows is as follows (using cost of fellow):

  • With Progress or Ultimate Hero: 50, 75, 80, 110, 55, 60, 90, 120, 95, 65, 130, 150
  • Without Progress or Ultimate Hero: 110, 75, 80, 120, 130, 90, 95, 150, 50, 55, 60, 65
  • General Rule with Hero: No good general rule
  • General Rule without Hero: Middle or Top Fellow

Which Hero should you choose? (top)

Again, this depends on what your goal is, but before I go into my recommendation I think it will be helpful to go over some numbers. There are three main things you can try to optimize; Daily Specials, Grand Prizes, or League Progress. There are two main choices you can make to optimize for these options; Hero choice and Fellow choice.

At the end of this page you can find a simulation I wrote to estimate the number of daily specials and miles you can get with different heroes and follow options, I've used that to create these tables (based on 13000 travel rations):

Update: The tables below have been altered slightly since original release / video, there was a small error in the simulation. The result of this is that number of daily specials have increased slightly, while the number of miles / Heroes Tavern levels have decreased slightly. Nothing that should have a big impact or change my recommendations, though

Focusing on Maximum Daily Specials

Default Hero Progress Hero Special Hero League Hero Ultimate Hero
Daily Specials 15.2 14.8 25.3 14.8 26.2
Miles / League Points 264 / 264 439 / 439 226 / 226 264 / 528 451 / 902
Heroes Tavern Lvls (probability) 8 (99%) / 9 (1%) 12 (100%) 7 (22%) / 8 (78%) 8 (99%) / 9 (1%) 12 (100%)
Focusing on Maximum Miles (Grand Prizes)
Default Hero Progress Hero Special Hero League Hero Ultimate Hero
Daily Specials 13.9 13.5 20.0 13.5 23.4
Miles / League Points 326 / 326 484 / 484 326 / 326 326 / 652 484 / 968
Heroes Tavern Lvls (probability) 9 (20%) / 10 (80%) 13 (100%) 9 (20%) / 10 (80%) 9 (20%) / 10 (80%) 13 (100%)

As you can see there are significant differences between the different fellow and hero options. We can quickly eliminate the Default and League heroes as good options. These simply are not worth it. If you aim to go for daily specials, the Special Hero heavily outperforms the Default Hero. If you want to focus on the league the League Hero outperforms the Progress Hero, however by going for it you lose 2 (or even 3) Grand Prizes. The additional rewards from the leagues are not worth the Grand Prizes you lose. You might gain a selection kit, but you will lose it again from the Grand Prizes. And based on experience from previous events, you will probably not reach Silver League without spending diamonds, in which case you should go for the Diamond Hero over the League Hero anyways.

This leaves three good options; Progress, Special and Ultimate heroes. I would argue that most people should go for the Ultimate Hero. Even if you do not buy or spend diamonds, unless you have a completely new city you can do GE and GBG. You should be able to gain enough diamonds from these to buy the diamond hero once or twice.

So my recommendation is that you save all your event currency for 1 or 2 days when the Daily Specials you want are available, and use them all those days while using the Ultimate Hero.

  • If your focus is on Grand Prizes, using Ultimate instead of Progress Hero will give you around 10(!!) additional Daily Specials on average, and you will also have a chance to end in Silver League. This is definitely worth 150/300 diamonds.

  • If your focus is on Daily Specials, using Ultimate instead of Special Hero will give you 4 more levels of the Heroes Tavern. You'll also get slightly more daily specials, so again definitely worth 150/300 diamonds in my opinion.

Correction: This portion originally stated you only get +1 Heroes Tavern level with Ultimate vs Special Hero, which is not correct, as can be seen in my table above.

If you don't want to spend any diamonds at all then going for Progress or Special Hero should be your choice. If you just want the Heroes Tavern and don't care about daily specials you can go for the Progress Hero. If you just want daily specials and don't care about the Heroes Tavern you could go for the Special Hero.

Can you get the Heroes Tavern fully leveled for free? (top)

A common question during events is if you can get the main building fully leveled without spending diamonds. For this event the short answer is yes if you focus on Grand Prizes (with any hero), and yes if you focus on Daily Specials with the Ultimate Hero. If you focus on Daily Specials with Special Hero you are not guaranteed and should take steps to ensure you get all levels needed.

To get the main building fully leveled you need the level 1 building + 9 upgrades, 10 levels in total. You get the first 3 levels from the milestone rewards, so you need the remaining 7 from Grand Prizes, League rewards and/or the Event Surprise Box. This is where your choices matter, so below I go through the different fellow focuses and hero choices to see which can get it for free.

This event is quite generous, so even without the Event Surprise Box you will be able to fully level the Heroes Tavern if you do one or both of these:

  • Focus on fellows for Grand Prizes, no matter which hero
  • Use Ultimate Hero (for at least half (6500) of your travel rations)

The only scenario you might not get the Heroes Tavern fully leveled is if you focus on Daily Specials with Special Hero, which is probably something quite a few are planning to use. In this scenario you will only get 8 levels of the Heroes Tavern, so you are missing 2 levels. If you have the Event Surprise Box, then you will get a kit from here, so you'll only need 1 more level.

One possible way to get the final upgrades is through collecting Travel Rations from incidents and/or buying more with diamonds. In total, you will need around 2.2k Travel Rations (on average) for the next upgrade kit, then another 2.8k for each additional upgrade. So, if you have the surprise box you might be able to pick up around 2.2k from incidents, and thus get the Heroes Tavern leveled fully for free, but if you don't you'd need around 5k additional Travel Rations, so you would have to buy a few thousand of them.

Alternatively, or to play things more safely, you can compromise a bit on Daily Specials for additional miles. So instead of going for the best for Daily Specials, go for the 2nd best instead (if that is better for Grand Prizes), and so on. Or another way to compromise would be to spend portions of your currency focusing on Grand Prizes instead, for example towards the end of the event if all the Daily Specials you want have already been around.

How many diamonds per Daily Special? (top)

This is a relatively simple question to answer, depending on what your fellow and hero choices are:

Focus on Daily Specials Focus on Miles
Special 932 Diamonds 1179 Diamonds
Progress 1593 Diamonds 1746 Diamonds
Ultimate 900 Diamonds 1008 Diamonds

Correction: I made a mistake in my original calculations, so what was shown was the number of Travel Rations per Daily Special, not Diamonds per Daily Specials. Sadly you have to spend 1.81 Diamonds per Travel Ration, so the values are quite a bit higher than originally advertised :(

So with the updated values, the price is still decent, but definitely not among the best.

How many diamonds per additional Heroes Tavern? (top)

This is also a relatively simple question to answer, again depending on what your focus and hero choices are. Because the number of levels you can get for free depends on your playstyle and choices, I will show both the per level and fully leveled (10 levels) costs as "Per Level (Fully Leveled)".

Focus on Daily Specials Focus on Miles
Special 5216 (52 160) Diamonds 3616 (36 160) Diamonds
Progress 2685 (26 850) Diamonds 2436 (24 360) Diamonds
Ultimate 2614 (26 140) Diamonds 2436 (24 360) Diamonds

If, for example, you get 11 levels for free, you can use the fully leveled price and subtract the per level price once (or multiply the per level cost by 9). You can also subtract your current progress towards the next upgrade kit. Each level = 2 grand prizes, so if you are only missing 1 grand prize for the next upgrade you can subtract "per level / 2" from the total price.

If you are spending diamonds for an additional Heroes Tavern you should use the Ultimate Hero, which should land you in silver or gold league, for an additional 1-2 upgrade kits. You should also be able to get 2-3 additional kits from the base amount of Travel Rations, and one more if you have the Event Surprise Box. If you combine all of these, you probably won't need more than around 5 more kits from Travel Rations bought with diamonds, which is around 12500 diamonds, or probably 7x1995 = 13965 Diamonds. This could perhaps be even less if you get a lot from incidents.

Interactive Simulation of the Event! (top)

Finally, I'd like to share my interactive simulation of the event! To use the simulation, simply change out the values to your own values, then click the "Run" button (black triangle) to simulate the event. This will simulate "num_iterations" number of events with the values you have chosen. For example, if your "active_hero" is "Special" and "fellow_focus" is "Daily", the simulation will always pick the best option (out of 3 randomly chosen fellows) for daily specials, keeping in mind the +5% bonus. If you set the "starting_Rations" and "incidents" to the numbers you are interested in, the simulation will run until it is out of Travel Rations. If you set "num_iterations" to 1000, this will be done 1000 times, with the results from each run saved. You will then get the average daily specials and miles, as well as the probability distributions.

The higher number of iterations the more accurate it will be, but will also take longer to calculate. The simulation runs on your hardware, so that will also impact how long it takes.

If you want to see the code itself, check out the "simulation.py" file in the widget below. I've commented a bit, so hopefully it is clear enough :)
